Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Decisioning) to lead technical strategy for a distributed identity platform in Canada. The role is remote and focuses on high-availability backend systems that support identity checks, KYC, and regulatory compliance across markets.

You will drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure robust on-call processes, code quality, and scalable delivery.

Qualifications

• 8+ years shaping backend systems at scale.
• Proficient in Python or Kotlin and distributed architectures.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a yearly horizon.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics across lifecycle.
• Define solutions and processes and drive execution.
• Own operations, monitoring, on-call readiness and playbooks.
• Uphold code quality through reviews and standards.
• Mentor engineers and grow talent on the team.
