Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking a software engineer to design and implement backend features for our underwriting platform, supporting partnered merchants and customers across Affirm apps, e-commerce interfaces, and card experiences.

Remote-first, with base pay and equity structured for Canada. You will collaborate with product, design, and analytics to balance risk and performance, break down work, and deliver high-quality, well-tested code while contributing to a culture of growth and on-call

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; proficient in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems; AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Able to turn simple problems into multi-component solutions with clear, tested code.
• Comfortable navigating large code bases and performing code reviews.
• Proactive in seeking feedback and growing with the team.
• Strong verbal and written communication for global collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Break down large projects into tasks and deliver in phases; collaborate for timely delivery.
• Support product lifecycle with cross-functional collaboration (PM, design, analytics).
• Maintain artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics and supporting on-call efforts.
• Contribute to team growth through involvement in interview processes.
