ABOUT THE ROLE

The Relief Shift Supervisor covers vacation, training, and sick leave for the plant’s four (4) Shift Supervisors. While on shift, they are responsible for managing the production process from raw mix preparation to cement storage, ensuring all quality, production, safety, and environmental standards are met. The Relief Shift Supervisor also ensures Process Operators (A and B Operators) meet work standards and performance targets. When not covering shifts, the Relief Shift Supervisor supports operator training, assists with special projects, and contributes to production department initiatives.

Shifts are 12 hours long and rotate to ensure full coverage for the plant’s 24/7/365 operations. The Relief Shift Supervisor is expected to maintain a high level of availability, as the schedule may be adjusted with very short notice.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Suggest process and technical improvements to optimize efficiency, product quality, and environmental performance.
  • Maximize use of alternate fuels according to plant objectives.
  • When providing shift coverage:
    • Supervise the production process according to instructions from the Production Coordinator and manage raw mix preparation, grinding, clinker production, cement milling, and storage.
    • Adjust production planning when needed and optimize equipment use and support benchmarking initiatives.
    • Coordinate maintenance and contractor activities during breakdowns and control kiln and mill operations during complex situations.
    • Monitor and enforce planned use of alternate fuels and ensure proper and safe use of all production equipment.
    • Manage workforce scheduling for absenteeism and overtime and administer the Collective Agreement, including making call-outs per the agreement.
    • Lead monthly safety meetings and follow up on action items, and conduct daily workplace safety inspections, hazard assessments, and FLRAs.
    • Complete annual Employee Development Program (EDP) reviews for A and B Operators and support plant reliability by correcting operational issues.
    • Act as Level 2 First Aid Attendant, Incident Commander, and Emergency Response Team (ERT) Leader as required.
  • When not providing shift coverage:
    • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and deliver operator training and development.
    • Participate in Winter Turnaround (WTA) maintenance shutdowns and conduct first-level equipment inspections.
    • Lead production improvement projects and safety and housekeeping teams.
