Job summary

British Columbia Public School Employers' Association | Make a Future - Careers in BC Education is seeking a Relief Groundsperson 1 to maintain and repair school grounds and assist with related facilities tasks. The role collaborates with staff, students and the public to keep outdoor areas safe and tidy.

Responsibilities include operating grounds equipment, performing turf and irrigation maintenance, and assisting with minor site projects while ensuring a safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Completion Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Training in the operation of grounds equipment.
• Minimum of two years related experience.
• A valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information.
• General knowledge of Turf Grass and Irrigation maintenance.
• Competent in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this work.
• Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
• Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contact with students, suppliers and other staff.
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
• Physical capabilities to perform the job duties.
• Basic computer skills.

• Routine inspections of school and district equipment.
• Performs other maintenance related or emergent duties.

WAGE:

$29.02 hourly wage effective July 1, 2024

SUMMARY:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Sufficient vision to perform duties of a groundsperson.
• Fundamental ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade.
• Physical strength required to do heavy manual work in all weather conditions.
