Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a relief cook for the Justice Department's Correctional Services in New Glasgow. You will prepare meals, supervise inmate kitchen staff, and ensure sanitary standards and security in a 24/7 facility.

Strong judgment and a capable demeanor help manage demanding, high-stress situations. Ideally you hold a Journeyman Certificate (Red Seal) with four years’ cooking experience, plus a Food Handler’s Course.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Certificate (Red Seal) is required.
• At least four years of experience as a cook.
• Food Handler's Course is required.
• Experience in a secure environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide nutritious meals to inmates, staff, patients and visitors as approved.
• Supervise and instruct kitchen helpers and maintain kitchen security.
• Ensure food safety, sanitation and proper storage of equipment and supplies.
• Maintain records including daily menus and meals served.
