Job summary

Nova Scotia Correctional Services is seeking Relief Correctional Officers to provide safe, secure custody and supervision in adult facilities on rotating shifts. You will work in Living Units, Admissions/Discharge, Reception/Visitation, Recreation, Laundry and Canteen Services, while documenting in JEIN and assisting with program delivery.

A high school diploma and 2 years of related experience are required; equivalencies accepted.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; 2 years related experience or equivalent combinations.
• Equivalencies include: 2-year diploma + 1 year related experience; 5 years in related field.
• Experience in corrections or law enforcement is an asset.
• Experience working with diverse communities is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, secure custody and supervision of sentenced and remand persons.
• Manage living units, admissions/discharge, reception/visitation, and recreation duties.
• Supervise searches, safety checks, and reporting using JEIN and related systems.
• Support program delivery and assist with case management processes.
• Maintain professional conduct and follow unit post orders and directives.
