Job summary

Royal Ottawa Health Care Group in Ontario seeks a Registered Practical Nurse to support the Forensic Treatment Unit. This role covers specialized mental health care for individuals in the criminal justice system, with treatments for NCR, unfit to stand trial, or those convicted of offenses.

Units are located in Ottawa and Brockville. You will perform clinical tasks such as vital signs, glucose monitoring, injections, medication administration, O2, wound care, catheters, ECT recovery, and basic

Qualifications

• Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
• Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
• CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
• Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding
• Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients
• Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team
• Basic computer skills required
• Two years' recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing
• Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques

About the Role

Forensic Treatment Unit

This program provides specialized mental health care for individuals involved in the criminal justice system or those at risk of offending.
