Job summary

Royal Ottawa Place, part of Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, is a 64-bed long-term care facility within The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. We seek a registered nurse with current Ontario College of Nurses registration to provide high-quality psychiatric and general nursing care for adults with stable mental illness and/or physical limitations.

Requirements include registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, up to 3 months nursing experience, CPR within the last 12 months, and

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Up to 3 months Nursing Experience
• Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues
• Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice
• Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues with knowledge of physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictions
• Able to meet CNON nursing practice standards
• CPR certification within last 12 months (BCLS at minimum)
• Evidence of continuing professional education
• Effective verbal and written communications skills
• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Problem solving, leadership and management in changing situations
• Sensitivity, skills and experience with diverse individuals and communities
• BScN
• Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
• Experience in Mental Health and/or addictions
• RNAO membership (preferred)

About the Role

Long Term Care – Royal Ottawa Place

Royal Ottawa Place is a 64-bed long-term care facility located at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It provides a home-like environment for adults with stable mental illness and/or physical limitations. The facility is divided into four home areas, each supporting 16 residents, with an average age of 65 years.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Up to 3 months Nursing Experience
• Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues
• Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation
• Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in psychiatric nursing practice as articulated in the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice
• Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues with specific knowledge about physical/medical compilations related to mental health and addictions
• Able to meet the standards of nursing practice of the College of Nurses
• CPR certification within the last 12 months (BCLS at a minimum)
• Evidence of continuing professional education
• Effective verbal and written communications skills
• Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Problem solving, leadership and management skills in responding to complex and rapidly changing situations
• Sensitivity, skills and experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Preferred:

• BScN
• Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
• Experience in Mental Health and/or addictions
• Membership and active participation in a professional nursing organization (RNAO)

• Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques
• Experience in Long Term Care
• Clear understanding of MOH LTC standards and relevant registration

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
