Job summary

The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group is hiring a Registered Practical Nurse float to cover rotations across LTC, geriatric inpatient, and ECT units within the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.

You will operate as part of an inter-disciplinary team, providing essential nursing care and ensuring patient safety while maintaining documentation and complying with CNO standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
• Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
• CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
• Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Technical skills including glucometer reading, vital signs, injections, physical/mental health assessment, catheterization and IV meds, O2, wound care, suctioning, patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding.

Responsibilities

• Work a scheduled rotation across Long-Term Care, Geriatric Inpatient Program, and ECT.
• Provide Registered Practical Nurse care on assigned units within Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.
• Collaborate with inter-disciplinary team to support patient recovery and safety.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with relevant policies.

Job description

The Royal is currently hiring for our Registered Practice Nurse float pool. The Registered Practical Nurse will work a scheduled rotation; however, the shifts will be split between Long-Term Care, the Geriatric Inpatient Program, and ECT (at the discretion of the needs of each unit, and scheduled by the scheduling department). The Registered Practical Nurse must be able to work on the stated units within the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.

Preferred:

• GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approach) training and P.I.E.C.E.S training, or other related dementia care training
• Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques
• 2 years recent experience with older adults with psychiatric/mental health illness

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
