Job summary

Southbridge Care Homes is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join our Ontario LTC Home on a part-time basis. You will support medication administration, treatments, and assessments, while participating in multidisciplinary care planning.

Qualifications

  • Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario.
  • First Aid and BLS certification are required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure resident care is provided with established nursing standards, physician orders, and policies; observe and record vital signs and initiate remedial health measures.
  • Assess residents, develop and evaluate care plans, monitor health, and implement physician orders as needed.
  • Organize and direct care functions including restorative and palliative care; implement policies and regulations.
  • Plan, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff; orient/train new personnel and conduct performance appraisals.

Hourly Wage: $27.45

Reports to: Director of Care

The RPN plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents by supporting the LTC Home in the administration of medications, treatments, and assessments. This position actively participates in all multidisciplinary meetings to ensure excellence in resident care and uphold the quality of nursing practice in accordance with:

  • College of Nurses of Ontario Standards
  • Long-Term Care Standards
  • Southbridge Care Homes Standards
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure resident care is provide with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents, and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care.
  • Assess residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate resident care plans. Monitor residents’ health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physician orders.
  • Organize and direct functions and activities related to provision of care to residents including restorative care and palliative care as required. Interprets and implements established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train new personnel and may participate in in-service education. Monitor performance and conduct performance appraisal and refers problems to the Director of Care.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
  • Registration or eligible for registration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario.
  • Current First Aid and BLS Certificate
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
  • Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential
Additional Requirements include
  • A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
  • Completion of a 2 Step TB Skin test within the last 12 months of start date.
