Job summary

Interior Health is seeking a registered nurse to join the Emergency Department at Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, BC. The ideal candidate brings experience in emergency nursing and a flexible, team‑oriented approach to a fast-paced environment.

This relief part‑time position (0.74) runs days and nights, with shifts from 07:00 to 19:15 and 19:00 to 07:15. IH offers comprehensive benefits, strong well-being programs, and opportunities for professional education.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration (BCCNM).
  • Emergency – Advanced preparation in the ED clinical specialty or equivalent.
  • CPR within 3 years.
  • Combined Critical Care/Emergency – Advanced preparation in a critical care clinical specialty and 2 years related experience.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to emergency patients, independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice.
  • Maintains and advances own clinical competence.
  • Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Education

This is a Relief Part Time (0.74) opportunity until April 07, 2028, or the return of the incumbent.

Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights rotating from 07:00 to 19:15, 19:00 to 07:15 hours.

  • Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area as required by the position:
    • Emergency – Advanced preparation in an ED clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 3 years
    • Combined Critical Care/Emergency – Advanced preparation in a critical care clinical specialty and 2 years related clinical experience aligned with unit specific competencies or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 3 years
