Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre is seeking an experienced Emergency Department nurse to join a multi-disciplinary team. The role requires current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, BLS within 12 months, ACLS within 2 years, and 1–2 years of emergency experience.

CTAS is an asset, with additional cardiac and trauma nursing credentials preferred. Orientation includes acquiring added nursing skills and delegated medical acts such as cardioversion and external pacemaker

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• BLS for Health Care Providers certificate within last 12 months.
• ACLS certificate valid within 2 years.
• Coronary Care or Lead II/12 Lead course (min 25 hrs).
• 2–3 years experience on Medical/Surgical unit.
• 1–2 years Emergency experience (last 2–3 years).
• CTAS certification is an asset.
• Mental Health Nursing experience is an asset.
• TNCC or PALS preferred.
• End orientation: Cardioversion/defibrillation and external pacemaker competencies.

Job description

Department: Emergency Department

Initial competition is now closed.
We are continuing to accept applications until a candidate is selected.

The Emergency Department is open 24 hrs/day 7 days per week. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians and other members of our health care team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

• Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate is required (recent within the last twelve months)
• Current Advanced Cardiac life Support (ACLS) Certificate (within 2 years) required
• Coronary Care Course (min. 25 hrs.) and/or Lead II/12 Lead Interpretation Course (min. 25 hrs.) required
• Minimum (2-3 years) experience working on a Medical or Surgical Unit required
• Minimum (1-2 years) experience in Emergency (within the last 2-3 years) required
• Canadian Triage & Acuity Scale (CTAS) Certification an asset
• Experience in Mental Health Nursing an asset
• Courses in: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Nursing Certification preferred
• Must have or be able to obtain certification of added nursing skills and delegated medical acts specific to Emergency by the end of orientation period:
  • Cardioversion/defibrillation
  • Application of external pacemaker

• Must demonstrate basic computer knowledge

• Ability to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events required
• Must demonstrate good attendance and work record
• Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
