Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre in North Bay, Ontario, is seeking an Emergency Department nurse with current CNO registration and BLS/ACLS credentials. The role supports a multidisciplinary team in a 24/7 ED, with opportunities for advanced emergency skills.

Candidates should have 2–3 years on medical/surgical units and 1–2 years in emergency care; CTAS is an asset. A strong emphasis on safety, teaching, and collaboration is noted in the posting.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• BLS for Health Care Providers certificate required (within 12 months).
• ACLS certificate required (within 2 years).
• Coronary Care/Lead II-12 Lead courses required/desirable.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience on a Medical/Surgical unit; 1–2 years in Emergency.
• CTAS certification asset; mental health nursing experience a plus.
• Trauma and paediatric life support courses preferred (TNCC/PALS).
• Be able to obtain added nursing skills for emergency acts by end orientation (defib/cardioversion, external pacemaker).

Job description

Department: Emergency Department

The Emergency Department is open 24 hrs/day 7 days per week. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians and other members of our health care team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

• Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate is required (recent within the last twelve months)
• Current Advanced Cardiac life Support (ACLS) Certificate (within 2 years) required
• Coronary Care Course (min. 25 hrs.) and/or Lead II/12 Lead Interpretation Course (min. 25 hrs.) required
• Minimum (2-3 years) experience working on a Medical or Surgical Unit required
• Minimum (1-2 years) experience in Emergency (within the last 2-3 years) required
• Canadian Triage & Acuity Scale (CTAS) Certification an asset
• Experience in Mental Health Nursing an asset
• Courses in: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Nursing Certification preferred
• Must have or be able to obtain certification of added nursing skills and delegated medical acts specific to Emergency by the end of orientation period:
  • Cardioversion/defibrillation
  • Application of external pacemaker

• Must demonstrate good attendance and work record
• Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.
