Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre seeks a registered nurse to join the Regional Dementia Care program (Oak Lodge - Sudbury). The role supports assessment and treatment of older adults with dementia and challenging behaviours in an interdisciplinary team.

Applicants must hold an Ontario RN license, current BLS, and demonstrate excellent communication, de-escalation and safety skills. Accessibility and CRC/VSC checks are part of the process.

Qualifications

• Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
• BLS for Health Care Providers certificate current (within 12 months).
• Experience with older adults showing responsive behaviours.
• Knowledge of neurodegenerative disorders and relevant pharmacotherapy.
• Familiarity with PHIPA, MH Act, RHPA requirements.
• Trauma-informed care principles applied in interactions.
• Willingness to work shifts across programs as needed.
• Excellent verbal de-escalation and communication skills.

Department: Regional Dementia Care (Oak Lodge- Sudbury)

The Regional Dementia Care Program provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults (usually >65 years old) and/or adults with an age-related dementia, which is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and/or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge

• Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) certificate required (within the last twelve months)
• Experience working with older adults demonstrating responsive behaviours including evidence of creative application of Personhood required
• Knowledge of neurodegenerative disorders, best practices, and relevant pharmacotherapy for this population required
• Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.g. Regulated Health Professionals Act, Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) required
• Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactions
• Flexibility to work within an interdisciplinary environment required
• Educational assets: Gentle Persuasive approach (GPA), Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Capabilities, Environment and Social Self (PIECES), Montessori Methods for Dementia
• Excellent verbal de-escalation skills required
• Must be willing to work shifts in other programs as required

• Must demonstrate good attendance and work record
• Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset.
