Job description

Reports to the Nurse Manager, Department Head, or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or community, following the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience

Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Up to two (2) years of recent, relevant experience, depending on the clinical setting.

• Specialty unit nurse positions require area-specific specialty certification for the unit.
• Heart Health nurse positions require demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation, evidenced by a score of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam.

Skills and Abilities

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize workload and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents, and families.
• Physical ability to perform the duties required by the position.
