Job description

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals living with mental illnesses and addictions issues, and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario.

Your Health Space supports health care organizations across Ontario to improve mental health in their workplaces through live workshops and self-directed modules. It embraces the holistic view that psychological health and safety in the workplace takes the collective effort of individuals across an entire health care organization. Therefore, the program is offered to Leaders, Health Care Workers, and Support Staff working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home and community care settings. Through this program, health care workers can learn to recognize and manage symptoms of chronic workplace stress and connect with colleagues through facilitated discussions.

Job Summary


CMHA Ontario is currently seeking a Regional Coordinator & Trainer, Your Health Space, for the Ontario Region: Western. This position will provide support and coordinate teams of Trainers in their respective region.

The incumbent will report to the Manager, Training and Quality Assurance, Your Health Space, and will coordinate training in their region as well as provide training and coaching support to team members as needed in their dedicated region.


The ideal candidate is comfortable operating on their own initiative, has experience working with senior leaders in the healthcare sector as well as leading and coordinating colleagues. This person is also able to market workplace programming and has experience delivering in-person and virtual training.

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinates Your Health Space training to Health Care Serving organizations within their assigned region(s).
  • Provides administrative support and mentorship (as needed) to a group of 4-6 regional Trainers and helps to support and coordinate region-specific training activities.
  • Assists in curriculum development and revisions based on feedback from client representatives, participant evaluations as well as post-session trainer feedback.
  • Engages with hospitals, primary healthcare teams, long-term care, Ontario Health Teams, public health agencies and other frontline healthcare workplaces to promote and encourage participation in the Your Health Space program.
  • Utilizes and leverages a stakeholder database (Smartsheet) to coordinate training activities.
  • In partnership with the Manager, Training and Quality Assurance, support the development and execution of action plans to meet projected targets.
  • Partners with Communications team to share activity updates with stakeholders.
  • Responds to registration requests and reports region-specific training activities to the Manager, Training and Quality Assurance on a regular basis.
  • Supports Trainers in delivering Your Health Space programming to frontline staff and supportive healthcare professionals through train-the-trainer workshops and ongoing coaching.
  • Implements and monitors quality improvement initiatives to support program efficiency to ensure optimal client experience.
  • Assists with grant application submissions when requested.
  • Attends regular meetings of the Your Health Space and CMHA Ontario teams.
  • Regular travel will be required, possibly requiring overnight stays.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience training adult learners required.
  • Experience with coordination required, along with experience in project management which is an asset.
  • Work experience in the healthcare sector required.
  • Direct patient/client care experience strongly preferred.
  • Certification/designation in a relevant healthcare field (e.g., RN, RP, RPN, BSW, MSW, PSW, SSW, CYC etc.) preferred
  • Ability to deliver training effectively in English required, and in French a strong asset.
  • Experience working in multi-sectoral partnerships and liaising with non-governmental organizations and government agencies required.
  • Demonstrated ability to present to and/or facilitate large groups of 100+ participants, both virtually and in-person.
  • Ability to design and deliver curricula related to mental health and addictions.
  • Work experience in the community sector an asset.
  • Familiarity with key concepts of mental health promotion, health equity, and social determinants of health an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the mental health and addictions sector, workplace mental health, and the Z1003 National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace preferred.
  • Highly strategic thinker with strong leadership skills.
  • Well-developed administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills; Effectively prioritizes and manages workload and can successfully meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including strong writing, editing, and presentation skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Experience applying judgment, initiative, and discretion when dealing with confidential, legal, and/or sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook), experience with database management (Smartsheet) is an asset.
  • Experience with coaching practices is an asset.
  • Experience with implementing and supporting programmatic change is preferred.
  • G Class license required.

Salary

Hiring Rate: This position pays between $73,520.97 and $75,726.60 per annum, based on a 35-hour work week.


The salary grid for this role ranges between $73,520.97 at Step 1 and $82,748.49 at Step 5. The initial salary offered for this position is anticipated to fall between Step 1 and Step 2 of the salary grid as posted above as the hiring rate.

The successful candidate will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes pension through HOOPP, life, health, and dental insurance, exclusive paid time-off and opportunities for professional development.

Working Conditions


This is a full-time, regular permanent position working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). Incumbents must have strong knowledge of healthcare services in the Western region of Ontario. This position is based in Toronto, Ontario. We are currently operating within a hybrid model, with colleagues working from the office 3 days/week and from home 2 days/week.


Remote work may be considered for qualified candidates who are not within a commutable distance, including those without reasonable access to transit options that support travel to the office, based on proximity to the office, operational needs, and the requirements of the role.


This position requires regular travel when required, possibly requiring overnight stays.

This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone/virtual interaction, and working at the computer. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling. Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.

This position is within the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to maintain and submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
