Job summary

City of Winnipeg is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to install, inspect, maintain and repair refrigeration and cooling systems across facilities managed by the Assets and Project Management Department. Under the supervision of the HVAC Foreman, you will analyze problems, dismantle, adjust and repair components as required in alignment with standard trades practices and code requirements.

The role requires a Red Seal Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic certificate, a WFPS Service Person

Qualifications

• Must possess Red Seal Journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning certificate recognized by Manitoba.
• Must possess and maintain a WFPS Service Person License.
• Must possess a Red Seal Gas Fitter.
• Must possess a MOPIA Certification.
• Two (2) years of experience with Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration and Cooling System Installations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
• Proficiency operating a PC using Outlook, Excel and Word and ability to learn other software.

Job Profile

Under the general supervision of the HVAC Foreman, the Refrigeration Mechanic installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs Refrigeration and Cooling equipment by analyzing problems, dismantling, adjusting, replacing and/or repairing components as required in facilities under the Division's jurisdiction in accordance with standard trades practices, certification applicable codes and manufacturers specifications.

As The Refrigeration Mechanic, You Will

• Maintain and repair HVAC Systems.
• Coordinate Contractors.
• Coordinate annual Regulatory Inspections.
• Perform duties related to safety, working relationships, training, license's, tools and other duties as required.

Your Education And Qualifications Include

• Must possess a Red Seal Journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Certificate recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
• Must possess and maintain a WFPS Service Person License.
• Must possess a Red Seal Gas Fitter.
• Must possess a MOPIA Certification.
• Must have two (2) years' experience with Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration and Cooling System Installations.
• Knowledge of the regulations applicable to the area of work in addition to related occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Proficiency operating a personal computer using Microsoft Outlook, Excel and word and ability to learn other software.
• Demonstrated ability to use hand and power tools, and measuring instruments.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work and maintain required records.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to instruct and supervise staff.
• Ability to coordinate and monitor work performed by contractors in the areas of installation, repair, or maintenance of associated equipment.
• Ability to physically perform the duties of the position.

Conditions Of Employment

• The successful candidate must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful candidate possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
• Must possess a Red Seal Journeyman Refrigeration and Air Conditioning certificate recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver's License.The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver's notice in force document upon request.
• Successful completion and maintenance of a Winnipeg Police Service Level 2 Security Clearance satisfactory to the employer will be required from the applicant(s) or successful candidate(s).This position may require a Level 3 security clearance from the Winnipeg Police Service.
• Must Possess a MOPIA Certificate.
• Must possess a St. John's Ambulance Emergency First Aid Certificate or equivalent or willingness and ability to obtain it within three (3) months of commencing in the position.
