Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd. in Burnaby, BC, seeks a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain, repair and diagnose mobile equipment such as scrap metal handlers, forklifts, cranes and trucks.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will work toward Red Seal certification under mentorship. Responsibilities include disassembly and reassembly of engines and cooling systems, hydraulic and electrical work, ordering parts, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification or progress toward it (3rd/4th year apprentice) is required.
• Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record is required.
• Basic computer skills and safety-focused mindset are essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct maintenance tasks per safety policies and company practices.
• Test equipment to ensure performance per manufacturer specs and regulations.
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions in mobile equipment.
• Keep equipment clean, lubricated and well-maintained.
• Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
• Support safety, environmental and security practices.
• Work outdoors ~80% of the time; travel to job sites for maintenance and repairs.
• Write service reports.

Position Overview

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic to be based out of our Burnaby, B.C. location. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this person will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and problem diagnosis of mobile equipment (scrap metal handlers, forklifts, cranes, and trucks) including hydraulic and electrical systems. The successful candidate will be involved in dissembling and reassembling components such as engine and cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems and ordering the necessary materials and parts that will be required to complete repairs. Welding experience and a current CUI would be an asset. Most of all a good work ethic and a willingness to learn the keys to success in this role.

ABC will support the ideal candidate’s path to achieving the Red Seal certification, under the mentorship of the Senior Director, Asset Management. The successful candidate will also be eligible to join the company’s Red Seal Retention Bonus program after obtaining their Red Seal certification.

• Conducts maintenance tasks according to company environmental, health and safety practices and policies.
• Tests equipment for proper performance and ensuring that all work done meets manufacturers specifications and legislated regulations.
• Diagnoses various equipment faults or malfunctions.
• Keeps equipment clean, lubricated and maintained.
• Interprets work orders and technical manuals.
• Supports company environmental, health, safety, security practices and policies.
• Work environment – work outside 80% of the time. Occasionally travel to job sites to perform maintenance and repairs.
• Writes service reports.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification (Or Third or Fourth Year Apprentice).
• Canadian Vehicle Inspection Program License or the ability to obtain one would be considered an asset.
• Class 5 Driver's License with a clean drivers abstract.
• Basic computer knowledge/skills.
• Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
• Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
• Ability to communicate effective nly with colleagues and clients.
