Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd. in Burnaby, BC is seeking a Shear Operator to operate the mobile shear-attached machine and excavator with attachments, sorting and processing scrap metal to specifications.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating excavators, material handlers and other heavy equipment.
• Previous work with bucket and thumb attachments.
• Experience with scrap metal recycling or demolition is a plus.
• Mechanical aptitude with strong hand-eye coordination.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Safety conscious and flexible with shifts.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Sorts and processes materials to customer specifications using attachments such as bucket, thumb, and Labounty shear.
• Loads and unloads materials from bins, dumps, trailers and rail cars.
• Assesses risks and mitigates safety and environmental concerns.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks such as lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning.
• Participates in process design and development of improvements.
• Assists in analysis of process improvements and solutions.
• Gains awareness of industry best practices and contributes to implementation.
• Self-manages when operating off site.

Position Overview

ABC Recycling is seeking a Shear Operator to operate equipment and the mobile shear-attached machine along with thumb and bucket attachments. This role is primarily based out of Burnaby, BC. The job holder will be responsible for safe operation of a mid-sized excavator with a mobile shear attachment, sorting, and processing scrap metal to specifications. This is a full time, year-round job opportunity with many opportunities for increased earnings through overtime. The ideal candidate is attentive, flexible, and wanting a long-term career.

Responsibilities

• Sorts and processes materials to customer specifications using various attachments such as the bucket and thumb and Labounty shear.
• Loads and unloads materials from and into various bins, dumps, trailers, and rail cars.
• Assesses situational risks and mitigates safety and environmental concerns.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks such as lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning.
• Participates in the development and design of processes.
• Assists in the analysis of process improvements and development of solutions.
• Gains awareness of and contributes to implementing industry best practices.
• Self-manages when operating off site.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating different types of excavators, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders.
• Must have previous work experience using bucket and thumb.
• Prior experience with scrap metal recycling, operating a shear attachment or demolition would be a definite asset.
• Mechanical aptitude coupled with strong hand/eye coordination.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Safety conscious.
• Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally.
