Job summary

ABC Recycling Ltd. in Surrey, BC, is seeking 1 General Labourer to process, move, sort, cut, and package scrap metal and vehicles for transport from our Surrey yard. The role includes ensuring the yard stays clean, organized, and safe, with adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities include receiving metals, weighing, sorting, loading/unloading with a forklift, and maintaining inventory. Outdoor work is required, with a focus on efficient, professional customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience with sorting ferrous metals is an asset.
• Forklift or skid steer experience is an asset.
• Knowledge of general safety practices.
• Willingness to work outdoors (rain or shine).
• Ability to communicate professionally.

Responsibilities

• Receive metals from customers and assist unloading as needed.
• Sort and weigh ferrous metals by type and grade.
• Maximize marketable loads by sorting and segregating metals.
• Maintain yard cleanliness and safety standards.
• Operate forklift to load/unload trailers.
• Drain fluids from vehicles and prepare for baling.
• Dismantle scrap materials and extract high-value metals.
• Maintain inventory records and assist in counting stock.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking 1 General Labourer who will be responsible for processing, moving, sorting, cutting, and packaging pieces of scrap metal and vehicles for transport out of our Surrey, B.C. yard. This person will also be responsible for ensuring the yard is clean and always well maintained, ensuring safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

• Receives metals from customer and assist in unloading if required.
• Assesses and weigh various types and grades of ferrous metals.
• Maximizes mix loads of scrap from customers by sorting, high-grading and segregating accordingly.
• Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order.
• Communicates with customers and ensure they receive professional service.
• Cuts larger too thick pieces of metal into smaller marketable pieces.
• Loads and unloads trailers using a forklift.
• Drains fluids from vehicles and prepares them for baling.
• Dismantles scrap materials and remove high value metals from them.Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order.
• Maintains inventory controls by collecting stock location orders, printing requests, recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed through a computer.
• May also assist in counting of physical inventory.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience with sorting and allocating ferrous metals, preferably in a busy, high volume scrap yard is considered an asset.
• Ability to use a forklift or skid steer is an asset.
• Knowledgeable about general safety practices.
• Willingness to work in an outdoor environment (rain or shine).
• Able to communicate professionally.

Schedule:

• Monday to FridayShift: 8:00am - 4:30pm

IMPORTANT:

We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
