Job summary

The City of New Westminster is seeking auxiliary skating instructors for the Learn to Skate program at Moody Park Arena. Positions require Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:15 to 5:30 pm, Oct 13–Dec 17, 2026, with January shifts possible.

Applicants must be 16+ with experience working with children, current First Aid/CPR C, and the ability to work in a team, develop daily lesson plans, and provide written evaluations. A Police Check is required; priority given to related course work.

Qualifications

  • Must be 16+ years old.
  • Experience working with children in a recreation setting.
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C certification.
  • Ability to work well in a team and to deliver planned lessons.

Responsibilities

  • Teach skating in the Learn to Skate program at Moody Park Arena.
  • Lead public skate sessions as needed.
  • Prepare and execute daily skating lesson plans.
  • Provide written evaluations of students.
  • Maintain a clear Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.

The City of New Westminster has auxiliary positions available for teaching skating in our "Learn to Skate" program. There will also be opportunities to lead public skate sessions. Moody Park Arena offers innovative, creative, fun recreational lessons for patrons 2.5 years to adults. We are looking for enthusiastic, organized leaders who have experience coaching or instructing.

Candidates considered for these roles must be available for our Tuesday and Thursday afternoon lesson program which runs October 13 through December 17 from 3:15 - 5:30 pm. Additional shifts will be available starting in January.

  • 16 plus years of age.
  • Experience working with children in a recreation setting.

  • Ability to give written evaluations of students.

  • Previous related experience or course work within the field of recreation or teaching will be given priority.
