Job summary

The University of Toronto’s Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education is seeking an Assistant Manager, Open Recreation to lead open recreation programs across all facilities, including St. George, UTM, and UTSC.

Reporting to the Director of Active Healthy Living, you will develop and implement broad-based programming, supervise casual staff, and support events aligned with MoveU initiatives while ensuring safe, engaging activities for students, staff, and the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum four years’ experience in physical activity programming, leadership or sport management.
• Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.
• Experience with physical activity, sport and recreation programs for a wide range of clients.
• Standard First Aid and Basic CPR.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Strong time management and interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer competencies with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to interact professionally with people at all levels.
• Understand current physical activity programs and trends affecting UofT.
• Ability to balance routine work with project demands.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and tact.

Responsibilities

• Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs across Tri-Campuses.
• Planning and overseeing evaluation framework for programs and initiatives.
• Analyzing and recommending improvements for student programs.
• Ensuring adherence to risk management protocols during events.
• Coordinating recruitment and training of casual staff; supervising work-study students.
• Fostering cooperative relationships with internal and external contacts.
• Assist with scheduling for recreational activities, including aquatic programs.
• Collecting payroll and HRIS documentation.
