Are you looking for an exciting career in Social Services or Therapeutic Recreation?

An exciting opportunity exists for the right individual to join a progressive non-profit organization as a Program Facilitator. Headway is currently looking for Program Facilitator (Casual/On-call) who can fill shifts that are not covered. This position requires having a flexible schedule as shifts may be called out last minute. Shifts will occur between Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm (New Westminster) and Tuesday 10:30-3:30 pm (Surrey Community) .

The position entails working within Headway's Club House supporting individuals with Acquired Brain Injuries, in a group and one to one capacity. Headway offers a variety of inclusive programs that assist participants in working towards their social, leisure, recreation, educational, vocationaland wellness goals.

The successful candidate possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, establishes and maintains rapport with clients, analyzes and resolves problems, encourages and motivates clients to participate in programs, completes proper documentation of client’s progress, provides personal care on occasion and attend staff meetings.

Pay rate: $25.55/hour *plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.

*Some benefits have eligibility requirements of surpassing three (3) months and securing a regular position of 20hrs/week or more. The benefits and criteria may change from time to time at the discretion of Strive.

The ideal applicant shall possess:

  • Diploma or Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Community Support Worker
  • Experience working with and delivering recreation programs for individuals with various abilities
  • Ability to act with integrity and trust, helps to build a healthy team environment, communicates clearly, fosters potential in others, and acts as a positive role model.
  • Has a broad knowledge of Acquired Brain Injury.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower individuals to take responsibility for their own health
  • Skill in the use and maintenance of specialized and adaptive equipment.
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of support and confidence
  • Ability to teach life skills in a group setting (between 3-10 individuals)
  • Ability to design, Implement and evaluate recreation programs
  • Ability to adapt programs to meet individual needs
  • Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
  • Completing daily documentation on a Microsoft platform database
  • Identifying and linking individuals to community resources
  • Able to facilitate regular midrange to large scale events for between 6–10 clients
  • Community Integration
  • Able to set firm boundaries

  • Some behavior management
  • Ability to encourage, motivate and involve clients in community activities.
  • Access to computer and internet
  • Proven ability to develop rapport with adults in a variety of contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues
  • Experience working with a marginalized population
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers, and partners
  • Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision

Job qualifications include (if you do not have all of these, but demonstrate you are a good fit for the position, Strive may be able assist you to acquire some of these requirements):

  • Diploma or Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Community Support Worker from an approved accredited academic institution preferred
  • One year of recent, Support Worker related experience preferred
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • TB test
  • Minimum of three (3) references
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License preferred
  • Current First Aid CPR Certificate
  • Food Safe Certification an asset
  • Mandt Certification an asset
