Job summary

Baptist Housing is seeking a casual Recreation Assistant to plan, implement and lead engaging recreational and therapeutic activities for residents at Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver, BC. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support health, wellness and autonomy in a person-centered Wellness Model of Care.

You will also assist with mealtimes, basic resident care, safety, and documentation of participation while guiding volunteers and staying current with infection control

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 completion required.
  • Recreation Therapy Aide certificate or diploma (min 12 months).
  • Current Food Safe certificate.
  • Current First Aid certificate.
  • At least 1 year of experience delivering recreation programs in residential care.
  • Alternative combination like Registered Care Aide with activity aide certificate considered.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and lead recreational and therapeutic programs.
  • Support mealtimes and provide basic resident care as needed.
  • Ensure safe, clean, welcoming environment for residents and staff.
  • Guide and supervise volunteers in programming.
  • Monitor and document residents' participation and progress.
  • Tailor activities to individual preferences and abilities.
  • Follow infection prevention and health and safety protocols.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development for role effectiveness.

About The Role

As a Recreation Assistant, you are at the heart of creating joyful and engaging experiences that support the well-being and independence of our residents. This is a casual position where you’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver person-centered programs that align with our Wellness Model of Care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and lead a variety of recreational and therapeutic programs that support the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of residents
  • Support mealtimes and provide basic resident care as needed
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents and team members
  • Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers involved in recreational programming
  • Monitor and document residents' participation and progress in activities
  • Promote resident autonomy and dignity by tailoring activities to individual preferences and abilities
  • Follow all infection prevention and control protocols and support health and safety initiatives
  • Continue your professional development to enhance your effectiveness in the role
Requirements
  • Grade 12 completion
  • Recreation Therapy Aide certificate or diploma (minimum 12-month program)
  • Current Food Safe Certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • At least 1 year of experience in implementing recreation programs in residential care
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered, such as a Registered Care Aide certificate with an additional activity aide certificate.
  • Class 4 License is an asset

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of $30.71.
