Job summary

West Coast SeniorsHousing Management is seeking a Recreation Aide to support residents in White Rock, BC. The role involves planning, implementing and evaluating activity programs that meet holistic needs while respecting residents’ rights and dignity.

Under the Therapeutic Recreation Manager, you will coordinate programs, assist with calendars, work with volunteers, and help maintain safety and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • A two-year Recreation or equivalent diploma is preferred.
  • HEABC wage level details apply; a Recreation/Activity Certificate is advantageous.
  • Vulnerable sector CRC is mandatory.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate recreation programs for residents.
  • Collaborate with team to develop and maintain activities and calendars.
  • Coordinate in-house programs and coordinate with external groups.
  • Assist residents with portering to programs and observe changes.
  • Maintain safety, documentation, and infection-control practices.

Aboutthe Role

The Recreation Aide reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager/ RecreationManager or designate. This role assists in planning, implementing andevaluating activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of personsserved, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treatedwith respect and dignity.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to;

  • Bean engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professionalrelationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture andpurpose.
  • Assistsin the development of recreation and leisure services including programresearch development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Promotes,publicizes and carries out established recreation programs such as outings,exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, games.
  • Assistsin the completion and posting of monthly calendars and newsletters outliningprograms and services available to residents/tenants and families.
  • Coordinatesexternal groups to provide in-house programs.
  • Assistsresidents and provide portering to and from programs as required
  • Observes, documents and reportsany changes in residents to the supervisor and/or nurse.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
    • accident prevention,
    • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
    • thesafe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary,and
    • Utilizinginfection control procedures
  • Maintains appropriatedocumentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality and security.
  • Actively participates inorientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees andeducational in-services.
  • Assistsin the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro,Point Click Care, etc.
  • Assists with orientation of newresidents and encourages residents to participate or volunteer in their owncommunity.
  • Provides guidance, assistance andsupport to volunteers, while assists in the evaluation of volunteers.
  • Performsother related duties as required.
Qualifications& Skills:
  • Grade12 Education
  • A two-yearRecreation or equivalent Diploma; or at a minimum a Health Care Aide with aRecreation/Activity Certificate.
  • Previousexperience in a senior’s focused environment an asset.
  • Dementiacourse an asset.
  • Serving It Right Certificate.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License.
  • All successful applicants mustpass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincialguidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal andorganizational skills.
  • Basiccomputer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
