Job summary

The Baptist Housing recreation team is seeking a Recreation Assistant at Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver. This casual position supports a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver person‑centered programs under our Wellness Model of Care, promoting well‑being, dignity, and engagement for residents.

You will lead therapeutic and recreational activities, assist with mealtimes, supervise volunteers, monitor participation, and document progress while upholding safety and infection control

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 completion or equivalent.
  • Recreation Therapy Aide certificate or diploma (minimum 12 months).
  • Current Food Safe Certificate.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • At least 1 year of experience implementing recreation programs in residential care.
  • Class 4 License is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and lead recreational/therapeutic programs for residents.
  • Support mealtimes and provide basic resident care as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming environment for residents and staff.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers in programming.
  • Monitor and document residents' participation and progress.
  • Tailor activities to individual resident needs while promoting autonomy.
  • Follow infection prevention and safety protocols and support health initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance effectiveness.

As a Recreation Assistant, you are at the heart of creating joyful and engaging experiences that support the well‑being and independence of our residents. This is a casual position where you’ll work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver person‑centered programs that align with our Wellness Model of Care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and lead a variety of recreational and therapeutic programs that support the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of residents.
  • Support mealtimes and provide basic resident care as needed.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents and team members.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers involved in recreational programming.
  • Monitor and document residents' participation and progress in activities.
  • Promote resident autonomy and dignity by tailoring activities to individual preferences and abilities.
  • Follow all infection prevention and control protocols and support health and safety initiatives.
  • Continue your professional development to enhance your effectiveness in the role.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 completion.
  • Recreation Therapy Aide certificate or diploma (minimum 12‑month program).
  • Current Food Safe Certificate.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • At least 1 year of experience in implementing recreation programs in residential care.
  • Alternative combinations of education, training, and experience, such as a Registered Care Aide certificate with an additional activity aide certificate.
  • Class 4 License is an asset.
