Job summary

Extendicare Oakview Place in Winnipeg, MB, seeks a Resident Programs Aide to support activation programs for residents. You will plan, implement and evaluate individualized and group activities, transport residents as needed, and collaborate with nursing staff to monitor wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with documentation skills.
  • Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating individual and group programs.
  • Geriatric care planning and resident assessments knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to develop new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
  • Experience with cognitively impaired residents preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate activation programs based on assessed needs.
  • Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to/from programs.
  • Monitor residents during programs and report changes to Supervisors/nursing staff.
  • Participate in program development and revisions under supervision.
  • Maintain program and resident records and communicate participation to staff.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet resident needs.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

What you bring:
  • Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and Leisure Services Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preferred, Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator Certificate.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive.
