Job summary

Extendicare Mapleview Home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is seeking a Resident Program Aide to provide engaging activation programs for residents, supporting a safe and respectful environment.

You will plan and evaluate activities, coordinate with nursing staff, maintain records, and help residents participate in meaningful experiences. The role offers mentorship, growth, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation, gerontology, registered ECE, or Social Service Worker.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience in one-on-one/group program planning and evaluation for residents.
  • Knowledge of care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Experience with geriatric populations, especially cognitive impairments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate activation programs for residents.
  • Set up activity areas, transport residents, monitor behavior and report changes.
  • Develop and revise programs under supervision.
  • Maintain resident records and communicate participation to staff.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
What you bring:
  • Proof of successful completion of an approved post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation, gerontology registered ECE, or Social Service Worker required.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive
