Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Recreation Aide to join our team in Canada. The role supports the planning, organization and execution of meaningful programs for residents, working with the Recreation Manager and Executive Director to ensure engaging activities.

You will help maintain records, participate in team meetings, accompany residents on outings, assess activity levels, and assist with daily activities and meals as needed.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid provincial driver''s license to transport residents by van (Class 4; Class F).
  • Vulnerable Sector Check or be willing to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents.
  • Maintain department records including assessments, evaluations and participation charts.
  • Communicate with residents, families, volunteers and staff about events.
  • Attend in-service education to stay informed on senior care trends.
  • Participate in team meetings to plan resident activities.
  • Facilitate scheduled resident outings and assess activity levels.
  • Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities; assist with meals as required.

Job DescriptionRecreation AideMission:Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide assists in the planning,organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residentsKey Responsibilities:• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for theresidents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;• Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments,evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families,volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current andupcoming events;• Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total careof the elderly;• Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;• Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;• Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;• Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;• Assisting with meal services as required;• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly toethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct;• Complete other duties as assigned.Qualifications:• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;• Previous experience working with seniors;• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);• Excellent oral and written communication skills;• An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;• Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (i.e.: Class 4; Class F).• Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check(including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.What Extendicare has to offer:At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us toreach our potential.
