Job summary

Extendicare Mapleview Home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, is seeking a part-time Resident Program Aide to plan, implement, and evaluate activation programs for residents, including those with cognitive challenges.

You will set up activity areas, transport residents, and monitor their wellbeing under supervision. The role requires post-secondary education in recreation or a related field, strong communication and documentation skills, and experience in program planning and evaluation for geriatric

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation, gerontology, ECE, or Social Service Worker.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and documentation skills.
• Experience in one-on-one/group program planning and evaluation for residents, including those with cognitive impairment.

RESIDENT PROGRAM AIDE

This position is for our Extendicare Mapleview Home, located in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

What you’ll be doing:

• Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
• Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Participate in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
• Maintain program and resident records according to department policy. Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
• Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

What you bring:

• Proof of successful completion of an approved post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, therapeutic recreation, gerontology registered ECE, or Social Service Worker required.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
• Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
• Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive
