Job summary

AgeCare Lakeview in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Recreation Aide to plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for residents in a long-term care setting.

You will assist with records, evaluations, and daily activities while maintaining strong communication with residents, families and staff. A college diploma in recreation or gerontology and a valid driver's license are required; Vulnerable Sector Check must be current.

Qualifications

• College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required.
• Previous experience working with seniors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (Class 4; Class F).
• Vulnerable Sector Check within six months or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director.
• Assist with maintenance of department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting.
• Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers and staff; inform them of events.
• Participate in in-service education to stay informed of trends in elder care.
• Attend team meetings to plan programs with residents' interests in mind.
• Facilitate residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings.
• Assist with assessment of individual resident activity levels.
• Prepare, carry out and evaluate daily activities.
• Assist with meal services as required.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
• Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy as per Code of Conduct.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
