AgeCare South Terrace is seeking a casual Recreation Aide to plan and deliver engaging activities for residents in Edmonton, AB. The role involves coordinating programs with the Recreation Manager, documenting participation, and maintaining positive relationships with residents, families and staff.

You will support outings, assist with activity assessments, and help with daily activities and meal services while upholding our values of integrity, dignity and compassion.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Valid provincial drivers license to transport residents by van (Class 4 or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents with Recreation Manager and Executive Director.
  • Maintain department records including assessments and evaluations of programs.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers and staff; keep teams informed.
  • Attend in-service education to stay current on elderly care trends.
  • Facilitate residentss scheduled outings and assist with activity assessments and daily activities.
  • Assist with meal services as required and support a safe, respectful home-like environment.

The Opportunity

The Recreation Aide assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates residents regarding recreation therapy. The Recreation Aide will be assigned duties reflective of his/her level of education, preparation, demonstrated skill level, AgeCare policies and procedures and the Collaborative Care Model.

What You Will Do
  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for the residents, in collaboration with the Recreation Manager & Executive Director;
  • Assists with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluations of planned programs detailing individual participation, charting;
  • Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events;
  • Attends in-service education in order to keep informed of current trends in the total care of the elderly;
  • Participates in team meetings to plan programs with residents' interest in mind;
  • Facilitating residents to scheduled and pre-arranged outings;
  • Assisting with assessment of individual resident activity levels;
  • Preparing, carrying out and evaluating daily activities;
  • Assisting with meal services as required;
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents);
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in the Code of Conduct;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
  • College diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology or equivalent is required;
  • Previous experience working with seniors;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly;
  • Valid provincial driver's license to transport residents by van (i.e.: Class 4; Class F).

Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
