Job summary

Thunder Bay Pulp & Paper is seeking a Recovery Superintendent to lead the recovery process, including boiler, evaporation, and chemical recovery, while driving health, safety, efficiency and cost targets.

The role requires strong decision-making, union-management experience, and a background in power engineering or chemical/mechanical engineering with high-pressure boiler exposure. Relocation may be considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • First/second class power engineer certificate or chemical/mechanical engineering degree with high-pressure boiler experience.
  • Excellent communicator; able to listen and implement feedback into the operations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing unionized employees.
  • Strong planning, prioritizing and delegation skills.
  • Must be eligible to work legally in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental laws and regulations; hold employees accountable for safety and environmental systems.
  • Lead the Department team to meet targets for health and safety, operations, production rates and costs.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement training programs to improve quality, efficiency and capital upgrades.
  • Participate in monthly operation/budget reviews and maintain open dialogue with the union to promote continuous improvement.
  • Build a positive relationship between the Utilities and Maintenance departments.
