Overview

VIA Rail Canada Inc., Canada's national passenger rail service, is seeking 2 Railway Car Technicians to work at its Vancouver Maintenance Center, with potential work in Mission. This role involves maintaining passenger cars to ensure peak operational capacity year-round.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform regular maintenance and heavy repairs on passenger trains, including interior and exterior components such as seats, toilets, sinks, panels, piping, windows, and brake rigging.
2. Train in major component repairs like wheelsets, couplers, and springs.

Work Schedule and Conditions

• Permanent position, 40 hours/week, with variable shifts (day, evening, night, weekends, holidays).
• No on-call requirements; shifts are scheduled in advance.
• Overtime opportunities available.
• Availability to work any day of the week, as the maintenance center operates 7 days a week, 24 hours during peak seasons.

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly wage: $35.22 - $42.49 based on experience.
• Shift differentials: $1.50/hour for evenings, $2.00/hour for nights.
• Red Seal differential: $1.00/hour.
• Full benefits including dental, medical, pension, ride pass, 5 personal days, vacation, uniforms, tools, PPE, free parking, showers, and indoor lunchroom.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience in trades such as Millwright, Carpenter, Plumber, Welder, Fabricator, or Automotive Technician.
• Red Seal certification preferred but apprentices are encouraged to apply.
• Nice-to-have: Journeyman status, experience in machinery maintenance, or assembling transportation equipment.
