Job summary

Ontario Northland is seeking a Railway Car Technician located in Cochrane, Ontario. Responsibilities include inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing rail car equipment while performing preventive maintenance. Responsibilities
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and tests rail car equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance work
  • Works from blueprints
  • Uses hand tools and various testing devices and instruments
  • Operates equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist with assignments
  • Adapts to new methods, processes, materials and equipment
  • Follows prescribed safety procedures including the use of safety clothing and equipment
  • May work various shifts and on weekends and some work outdoors in adverse weather
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (OSSD) or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Certificate of Qualification as Railway Car Technician 268R or within final year of apprenticeship in the same identified trade
  • Must be mechanically inclined
  • Available for shift work
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of safety codes and has demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious manner
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and walk on rough terrain
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Commitment to Health and Safety
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must pass a criminal record check, employment references, and education verification
