Job summary

Ontario Northland is seeking a Railway Car Technician in Rouyn-Noranda to inspect, repair and test rail car equipment and perform preventative maintenance. You will work from blueprints, use hand tools and operate cranes or forklifts as needed, while following strict safety procedures.

The role requires a Trade certificate or in final year and a strong commitment to health and safety, with the ability to work shifts, weekends, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (OSSD) or GED.
  • Certificate of Qualification as Railway Car Technician 268R or in final year of apprenticeship.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Available for shift work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of safety codes and a safety-conscious approach.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and walk on rough terrain.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written).
  • Commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

POSITION: Railway Car Technician

REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Equipment Maintenance

DEPARTMENT: Rail Mechanical

LOCATION: Rouyn-Noranda

REFERENCE: 300-41-27

RATE OF PAY: $40.55 per hour

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: Railway Car Technicians inspect, maintain, repair, and remanufacture railway passenger cars, freight cars and their components

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and tests rail car equipment
  • Performs preventative maintenance work
  • Works from blueprints
  • Uses hand tools and various testing devices and instruments
  • Operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes and forklifts to assist with assignments

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma (OSSD) or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Certificate of Qualification as Railway Car Technician 268R or within final year of apprenticeship in the same identified trade
  • Must be mechanically inclined
  • Available for shift work
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of safety codes and has demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious manner
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and walk on rough terrain
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Commitment to Health and Safety
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
