Job summary

VIA Rail in Vancouver, Canada, is seeking technicians for permanent, full-time maintenance roles. The position focuses on preventive maintenance and repairs of railway cars, interior systems, and major components to ensure safety and reliability of the national rail fleet.

The ideal candidate has experience or a diploma in a skilled trade, with journeyman certification considered an asset. The role offers an hourly wage with shift premiums and comprehensive benefits, in a permanent 40-hour work

Qualifications

  • Experience or certification or diploma in a skilled trade (carpentry, plumbing, welding, etc.).
  • Journeyman certification or Red Seal is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on railway cars.
  • Maintain interior systems (toilets, seats, windows, etc.).
  • Work on major components (wheelsets, couplers, etc.).
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and propose solutions.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team.

What we offer
  • Hourly wage: $38.49 to $46.43/hour
  • Shift premiums: evening ($1.50/hour), night ($2.00/hour)

  • 5 personal days and up to 10 sick days
Your responsibilities

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in maintenance or assembly of transportation equipmentAbility to work various shifts (day, evening, night, weekends) according to a schedule established in advance
  • Journeyman certification or Red Seal is considered an asset
Schedule
  • Permanent position (40 hours per week)
  • Variable schedule (days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Overtime available
