Job summary

CPKC is seeking a Conductor to join our rail operations. The role involves being part of a train crew, switching cars, and moving rail cars between yards. You must stay vigilant for safety, be prepared for unscheduled shifts, and work outdoors in all weather.

Joining CPKC offers growth into supervisory roles and management. Training comprises 16 weeks of paid in-class and field instruction, with pay during training and strong first-year earnings potential.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including long walks, lifting up to 80 pounds.
• Willingness to work unscheduled shifts in a 24/7 operation.
• Able to work up to 12 hour shifts including days/evenings/overnight/weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Work in train or yard service depending on seniority.
• Carry out instructions detailing a train's route and movements.
• Coordinate switching of cars, including coupling/uncoupling.
• Interpret and relay signals affecting train movement.
• Signal crew members for engine/train movement via signals or radio.
• Follow GCOR/general orders and bulletins.
• Provide flag protection and relay signals in emergencies.
• Move on/off moving or stationary equipment.
• Fill out forms and prepare clear reports.
• Handle emergencies and use fire extinguishers; apply first aid.
