At Rain Carbon Inc., we're dedicated to assembling exceptional teams, nurturing talent, and fostering personal and professional growth. Join us in a safe, supportive environment where you can realize your full potential with the tools, guidance, and opportunities to thrive.

Our global offices facilitate seamless operations, complemented by state-of-the-art production facilities in Belgium, Canada, Germany, India, Poland, and the USA where we cultivate enduring partnerships and ensure market success through consistent quality and customized solutions. With an unwavering commitment to reliability and responsibility, we foster a culture of excellence across all levels of our organization.

Background

Rain Carbon Inc. (RAIN), a global leader in upcycling of industrial byproducts to high value carbon materials, has announced a 30,000 sq. ft. industrial facility in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to serve as the location for the new RAIN Innovation Center for Energy Storage Materials, marking another significant step in the company's commitment to advancing sustainable energy storage material solutions. The R&D center consists of a demonstration facility, allowing pilot-scale processing of carbon and carbon precursor materials, and laboratories dedicated to the carbon material analysis with state-of-the-art analytical and electrochemical testing equipment.

This R&D center will facilitate the testing and application development of RAIN’s LIONCOAT thermoplastic precursor products used for enhancing the electrochemical performance of battery anode materials. In addition, the facility will support the development and commercialization of new, innovative energy storage material solutions based on natural and synthetic graphite as well as silicon-carbon composites for lithium-ion batteries. The center will also house the product innovations for carbonaceous materials tailored to emerging energy storage technologies such as solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries and hydrogen fuel cells.

Purpose of the job:

• Ensure the seamless coordination and availability of materials critical to R&D and pilot-scale experimentation.
• Provide hands-on technical support in the laboratory to execute and document experiments accurately and efficiently.
• Bridge the gap between materials management and lab operations, enabling smooth workflow and optimized resource utilization.
• Maintain data integrity and traceability through the use of SAP, LIMS, and standardized documentation practices.
• Support the development and scale-up of new products or processes by ensuring experimental readiness from both logistical and technical standpoints.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration across R&D, procurement, quality, and engineering teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in lab organization, material logistics, and experimental workflows.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lab Technologist Responsibilities (50%)
• Execute experimental procedures including sample prep, equipment operation, and data collection.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain pilot-scale and analytical lab equipment.
• Accurately record experimental data and observations in LIMS or lab notebooks.
• Support scientists and engineers in prototype testing and process development.
• Assist in test setup fabrication, including light fixture assembly or jigs.

Material Coordination Responsibilities (50%)

• Manage incoming and outgoing materials using SAP and LIMS, ensuring traceability and compliance.
• Maintain up-to-date inventories of chemicals, consumables, and experimental supplies.
• Coordinate procurement, delivery schedules, and logistics with vendors and internal teams.
• Organize lab stockrooms and storage systems for easy access and regulatory compliance.
• Track certificates of analysis (COAs), safety data sheets (SDS), and shelf life of materials.

Job requirements:

Technical skills:

• 1–4 years of experience in a pilot-scale R&D, manufacturing, or laboratory environment.
• Strong technical laboratory skills with a background in chemistry, materials science, or engineering.
• Hands-on experience with SAP (materials module) and LIMS platforms.
• Proficiency in inventory control, labeling, and storage practices.
• Familiarity with logistics and supply chain coordination, including shipping/receiving processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to collaborate across R&D, procurement, and QA/QC teams.
• Proficient in data collection, analysis, and reporting using Excel and/or lab software.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with CAD tools or 3D printing for custom test fixtures or experimental setups.
• Basic programming or scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, VBA, or similar).
• Knowledge of electrochemical systems, polymers, or advanced materials (field-dependent).
• Understanding of GLP/GMP or ISO lab quality systems.
