Job summary

Simon Fraser University is seeking a Quantitative Analyst to develop statistical models, forecast trends, and deliver data analyses to guide strategic enrolment management. The role involves data science work across Student Services, supporting planning, reporting, and process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics or a related quantitative science and three years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with R, Python, SQL, SAS or Stata and relational databases.
  • Experience with Tableau and Qlikview for BI and data visualization.
  • Knowledge of best practices and principles of student records and student success.
  • Advanced quantitative problem-solving, knowledge of research methodologies, data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver statistical modeling and forecasting for SEM.
  • Analyze data to support strategic enrolment management and planning.
  • Prepare and present reports on data analysis and insights.
  • Maintain data and reporting infrastructure for Student Services databases.
  • Provide training on reporting tools and processes.

About the Role

The Quantitative Analyst is responsible for the development and delivery of statistical modeling and forecasting, data analysis, and providing assessment information to support strategic planning, decision making, policy development, and business process improvement for Student Services. Acting as a data scientist, the Quantitative Analyst designs research and statistical methodology, provides in-depth data analysis, in-depth statistical analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis and reporting for Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) functions. The Quantitative Analyst maintains expertise in all aspects of student records and student success outcomes; assists in the oversight of Business Analysis and Assessment (BAA) reporting infrastructure; and prepares, delivers, and evaluates training on the use of reporting and other software systems. The Quantitative Analyst assists in the development, updating, and management of data and information in the Student Services databases. The role extracts data and information from other internal and external sources to prepare ad hoc and recurring reports and assessments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Statistics or a related quantitative science and three years of relevant experience in developing statistical and data analysis and survey methodologies, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of query and programming languages, and relational databases (e.g. R, Python, SQL, SAS, Stata).
  • Excellent knowledge of desktop and web-based business intelligence and visual analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlikview).
  • Knowledge of best practices and principles of student records and student success.
  • Advanced quantitative problem-solving skills, knowledge of research methodologies, data analysis, and report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
