Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous quality and safety improvements are inherent in this position.

Reporting to the Regional Manager of Quality, Long-Term Care and Assisted Living, the Quality Resource Coordinator is a key member of the Department's Quality Resource Team. The role involves participating in operational and strategic planning, and providing coaching and mentoring to Long-Term Care staff on quality initiatives such as falls prevention, wound care, and dementia care.

The position requires regional mobility and may involve travel across the region or the entire Health Authority, using a personal vehicle as needed.

Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • At least 3 years of recent, related experience in Long-Term Care, including 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, Long-Term Care, and infection prevention and control is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as Gerontology Nursing Certificate (GNC) or Change Management are advantageous.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work purposes.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and policies governing Long-Term Care and quality assurance.
  • Understanding of gerontology and chronic illness care.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience in coaching, adult education, and learning principles.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Proficiency with healthcare technology, MS Office, and databases.
  • Effective communication skills in verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to handle emotionally charged situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties.
