We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a permanent, full time position.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday – Friday (09:00-17:00).

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join the Pathology Department within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde as the Quality Manager.

The Pathology Department is based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and provides a comprehensive analytical and Consultant led clinical Histopathology, Cytology and Post Mortem service to clinicians working within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and other Health Boards.

The Quality Manager role is ideal for someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Organised, able to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines
  • Clear and logical with sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good at establishing and maintaining a rapport and communicating effectively and appropriately with staff at all levels
  • Able to influence, persuade, coach and motivate individuals and teams to undertake quality improvement that brings about change

The Post Holder Will

  • Ensure, under the direction of the Compliance and Transformation Manager that a suitable quality management system is in place and maintained.
  • Report to the laboratory management team on the functioning and effectiveness of the quality management system.
  • Co-ordinate awareness of the needs and requirements of users and to enable standards set by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to be met.
  • Take a lead role in the continuous development of the Quality Management System.
  • Educate, train, instruct and supervise staff in the provision of a quality service and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Must have significant post registration experience in a relevant laboratory environment.
  • Possession of a relevant Master of Science degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Registration Portfolio leading to HCPC registration.
  • Demonstrate high level of competence in problem solving and prioritising workloads.
  • Demonstrate in depth knowledge of NHS GG&C Policies and Protocols including Clinical Governance and Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of I.T. software packages including data analysis and textual documents.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development including management and service development.
  • A Quality Management qualification such as the IBMS Diploma in Quality Management or demonstrable equivalent management training is desirable.

Applicants must have previous experience of working in an ISO 15189 accredited NHS diagnostic laboratory environment and experience or a keen interest in Quality. Please note, this is a full time position and the work pattern is 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday.
