Job description

Overview

Position Overview: Responsible for serving as the primary onsite quality support to all team members and the crafts by managing the development and implementation of the Site-Specific Quality Plan and by researching/answering questions regarding quality. The Field Quality Manager (FQM) is a member of the project management team, able to work with minimal supervision, and takes the lead role in managing project quality and establishing the expected level of workmanship. This position requires developing thorough knowledge of the project and schedule as they apply to QA/QC.

Location & Travel Details

You'll have the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build renewable projects. This is a traveling position, up to 100% of the time, with potential placement on any project site across the US. Expect to spend 8-12 months per project. We offer a daily per diem in addition to base pay to assist with living expenses. The position includes routine travel home (rotation), a company vehicle, and a fuel card.

Responsibilities
  1. Promote and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  2. Manage the Site-Specific Quality Plan to ensure products and services meet standards and client expectations.
  3. Interpret plans and specifications, visualizing 3D from 2D drawings.
  4. Understand contract plans and specifications for assigned work.
  5. Inspect field conditions, identify problems, and implement corrective actions.
  6. Inspect work for compliance, identify deficiencies, and address them.
  7. Consider suggestions and concerns from staff, evaluate, and act accordingly.
  8. Monitor installed equipment for hazards and necessary adjustments.
  9. Produce quality work in accordance with standards.
  10. Familiar with MasTec Quality Control Manual and procedures.
  11. Mentor and train QA/QC inspectors.
  12. Prepare and review the Monthly Project Quality Report.
  13. Conduct walkarounds and participate in weekly quality meetings.
  14. Perform field inspections and tests aligned with the construction schedule.
  15. Conduct weekly quality audits.
  16. Ensure timely testing and interpretation of results.
  17. Train supervision and craftsmen on quality processes.
  18. Contribute QA/QC input to task planning and develop project-specific instructions as needed.
  19. Maintain project and corporate QA/QC files.
  20. Review third-party test results for compliance.
  21. Identify and issue Quality Alerts and nonconformance notices.
  22. Train Field Engineers on quality requirements.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
  • At least two years of quality experience in construction or operations, with civil, electrical, or mechanical activities preferred.
  • Trade certifications are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Commitment to safety and health standards.
  • Organizational, managerial, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of construction codes (ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.).
  • Understanding of crafts, inspection, and testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with quality metrics, lean principles, and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and quality documentation software.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to train and collaborate across teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Potential exposure to hazards, requiring safety precautions.
  • Moderate exposure to elements such as temperature extremes, dust, fumes, and noise.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders frequently.
