Job summary

Trotter & Morton Group of Companies is seeking a Quality Control Manager to coordinate all QA programs across our projects. You will ensure consistent processes, maintain QC records, and provide client-ready turnover packages.

The role involves audits, NCR/PAR management, and driving continuous quality improvements across construction sites. Applicants should have a technical education or engineering degree and 8+ years in QC/QA within construction, with knowledge of CSA, ASME, ISO 9001

Qualifications

  • Technical education or engineering degree.
  • Affiliation with ASET or APEGA would be considered an asset.
  • Experience as a Quality Control/Quality Assurance professional, usually evidenced by a minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Experience working on construction projects with subcontractors, fabricators / manufacturers, suppliers and distributors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain QA Procedures, 'best practices' and QC records and systems.
  • Promote quality, ensure processes for the QMS are established, implemented and maintained.
  • Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization and ensure quality control on all projects is managed consistently.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance to provincial, national and international standards, legislation and quality standards.
  • Lead and mentor project team members to ensure compliance with client, industry and internal quality requirements.
  • Review the QMS at planned intervals to ensure continued suitability and effectiveness.
  • Work with PM and purchasing to establish quality requirements for all Subcontractors and Suppliers.
  • Coordinate audits (internal and external) and monitor activities and project reviews.
  • Manage NCRs and PARs and ensure timely addressing.
  • Report to Senior Management on QMS performance and improvement needs.

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for coordinating all of the quality programs ensuring continuity between the companies. Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and maintain QA Procedures, "best practices" and QC records and systems.
  • Promote quality, ensure processes needed for the Quality Management System (QMS) are established, implemented and maintained.
  • Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization and ensure that the quality control on all projects is managed in a consistent manner.
  • Liaise with the regulatory bodies and ensure compliance to provincial, national and international standards, legislation and quality standards.
  • Responsible for leading and assisting the project team members to ensure compliance with the client, industry and internal quality requirements.
  • Perform review of the Quality Management System at planned intervals to ensure its continuing suitability and effectiveness (opportunities for improvement).
  • Work with Project Management Team/purchasing staff to establish quality requirements for all Subcontractors and Suppliers.
  • Prepare and coordinate audits, both "spot" internal audits and regulatory "formal" external audits, monitoring activities and project reviews.
  • Manage and ensure all NCR's and PARs issued are addressed on time.
  • Report to Senior Management on the performance of the QMS and any need for improvement.
  • Maintain a complete file of records of QA/QC for all projects.
  • Responsible to auditing the progress of the quality documentation as projects progress. This will involve site visits to all construction sites on an ongoing basis.
  • Responsible for the final review of all quality documentation prior to release to the client and the managing of the individuals compiling information on the job sites. Local shop fabrication (when done by others) inspection of structural steel and coatings for both structural steel and piping.
  • Develop, implement and maintain ITP's (Inspection Test Packages) as they apply to client specifications and industry standards on projects. This will also require other aspects of quality such as; Civil, concrete and structural steel erection, Manufacturing / Fabrication and Electrical / Instrumentation.
  • Responsible for the hiring or approval of new hires and mentoring of site quality personnel as well as ensuing that those individuals have the appropriate accreditation and that certificates are up to date.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and the ability to identify, recommend and implement solutions to current process gaps.
  • Mentor QC professionals working and reporting to the Quality Manager.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • A thorough understanding of CSA Welding standards, ASME Pressure Piping, Power Piping and material specifications.
  • A thorough understanding of the requirements of ISO 9001 the regulatory bodies, provincial, national and international standards, legislation and quality standards.
Required Experience
