Job summary

PepsiCo Canada in Peterborough is seeking a hands-on food product developer to translate consumer needs into product requirements and technical parameters for national launches. You will lead accelerated development cycles, collaborating with QA, Safety, Packaging, Regulatory and Insights to ensure robust, consumer-centric product designs.

Qualifications

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in Food Science & Technology or related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience with a CPG company, with at least 5 years in Product Development.
  • Strong product development skills with knowledge of food/beverage functionality and processing technologies.
  • Innovative/creative mindset with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Collaborative team player with cross-functional influence and strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop food products leveraging food chemistry, ingredient functionality and experimental design.
  • Lead accelerated product development lifecycles from ideation to national launch.
  • Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredient usage in formulations.
  • Follow innovation process to drive robust product design and specifications with cross-functional alignment.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and make technical recommendations on product and process needs.
  • Collaborate with QA, Food Safety, Packaging, Life Sciences, Regulatory and Insights to ensure robust, consumer-centric designs.
  • Lead cross-functional Stage Gate processes from feasibility to launch, ensuring robust design.
  • Lead risk assessments related to new product development and reformulations for brand stewardship.
  • Ensure scaled-up formulas meet specs in plants; partner with engineering for any equipment needs.

Overview

You will be part of a diverse and fast paced team in R&D that leads product development for Quaker Canada. You will be responsible to translate consumer needs into product requirements & technical parameters to launch products for the Canadian market. We are looking for a hands-on food product developer that has a passion for food science and is both highly creative and technically oriented.

Total Compensation: $84,100 - 134,100

Responsibilities
  • Develop food products with superior design leveraging food chemistry, ingredient functionality and experimental design
  • Lead accelerated product development life cycles that include new idea generation, prototype development, product optimization, production start‑up and national launching of new products.
  • Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredient usage in product formulations
  • Follow innovation process to drive robust product design and specifications with full cross functional alignment
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze & interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product & process needs
  • Collaborate with R&D cross functional partners including Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Packaging, Life Sciences, Regulatory and Sensory & Consumer Product Insights to ensure robust, consumer‑centric, safe and legal product designs
  • Lead cross functional teams through the Stage Gate process from feasibility to launch while ensuring a robust product and process design
  • Lead technical and business risk assessment/perspectives related to new product development, as well as product reformulations in support of technical brand stewardship
  • Ensure scaled‑up formulas meet product specifications at plants; partner with engineering to identify, test and scale‑up any new equipment requirements to produce new products at plants
Qualifications
  • BSc, MSc or PhD Degree in Food Science & Technology or related scientific field
  • 5-8 years of experience with a CPG company with min 5 years in Product Development
  • Strong product development skills with knowledge of Food or Beverage ingredient/product functionality and processing technologies
  • Innovative/creative mindset with a positive and results driven, “can-do” attitude
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across functions and influence both above and below level
  • Ability to prioritize and manage complex projects or multiple projects with flexibility/adaptability
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) needed to provide project updates both within the technical community and with our business partners. Also critical in support of Sales and Marketing presentations and product presentations for external customers
  • The ability and interest to work in the laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing scale environments
  • Detail oriented individual who can manage and partner across R&D functions during product development life cycles that include new idea generation, prototype development, product optimization, production start‑up and national launching of new products
