The QHSE Specialist oversees our Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental practices, ensuring compliance with Canadian regulations. Responsibilities include leading audits, managing safety and environmental programs, driving continuous quality improvement, and delivering training. The role also provides safety leadership to regional teams and reports to senior management on QHSE performance.

What You Will Be Doing

Here’s an overview of your responsibilities and how you can leverage your expertise :

  • Work closely with the QHSE global business unit and North American QHSE group, providing indirect leadership to regional QHSE coordinators, particularly for Canadian sites.
  • Ensure adherence to Canadian safety, health, and environmental laws, conduct risk analysis, manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and implement preventive measures.
  • Lead internal and external audits (ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001) and ensure continuous compliance and improvements for certifications, specifically in Windsor, Blenheim, and Prince George.
  • Evaluate workplace safety conditions, conduct inspections, manage accident prevention initiatives, investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and oversee worker’s compensation claims.
  • Champion initiatives to drive employee engagement in safety programs, fostering a proactive and participatory safety culture.
  • Develop and deliver QHSE training programs, launch and sustain a Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program to improve workplace safety culture.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response procedures, ensuring all sites are prepared for potential emergencies or environmental incidents.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone) to conduct investigations and develop corrective / preventive actions.
  • Maintain quality standards, oversee product manufacturing, drive continuous improvement, and manage complaints related to quality.
  • Provide QHSE reports to senior management and ensure timely communication and updates.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure alignment on QHSE standards and performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on QHSE performance data, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Promote and lead sustainability initiatives, such as reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and meeting environmental regulations.
  • Oversee the safety and quality performance of external suppliers and contractors, ensuring they adhere to company standards and regulations

What We're Looking For

When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following essential skills, abilities, and experience :

  • Completion of a related post-secondary technical or vocational training program preferred.
  • Expertise in Canadian health, safety, and environmental laws (U.S. an asset).
  • Experience with ISO standards, internal / external auditing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of machinery, precision measuring tools, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to develop and implement safety procedures and training programs.
  • Strong interest in mechanical work and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
