Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ North America is seeking a highly motivated Purchasing Agent to join our manufacturing team in Regina. An integral member of the purchasing team, the Purchasing Agent works to reduce costs while improving services by handling purchasing and procurement activities. Qualified candidates will be results-oriented team players with purchasing experience and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

1. Work proactively to meet strategic goals for cost reductions and service improvements.
2. Analyze vendor capabilities versus requirements and research new suppliers. Evaluate existing suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production, and distribution capabilities, as well as the supplier's track record.
3. Prepare, distribute, and analyze requests for proposals for day-to-day items and contracts ranging from one to three years; generate summaries and send to requesters for approval.
4. Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
5. Consult with departments across EVRAZ to understand technical specifications, product requirements, and inventory demands.
6. Write and review product specifications, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased.
7. Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with staff, users, and vendors to determine corrective actions.
8. Oversee day-to-day supplier management and ensure adherence to spend contracts.
9. Monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery; trace shipments and follow up on undelivered goods as needed.
10. Produce reports related to vendor activity, contractor headcount, RFPs, contracts, and other procurement data.
11. Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance and identify the need for changes.
12. Formulate policies and procedures for bid proposals and procurement of goods and services.

Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, preferably with a focus on logistics, engineering, operations, or supply chain management.
2. Certifications such as CSCMP, C.P.M., or APICS are preferred.
3. 5-10 years of purchasing/materials management experience, focusing on commodities, services, and capital purchasing.
4. Proven track record of cost reductions, with strong negotiation and commercial analysis skills.
5. Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
6. Familiarity with supplier markets and technological trends.
7. Knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially in steel or related industries, is an asset.
8. Proficient with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Oracle is a plus.
