Job Description and Responsibilities

EVRAZ North America is seeking a highly motivated Purchasing Agent to join our manufacturing team in Regina. This role involves reducing costs and improving services through purchasing and procurement activities. Qualified candidates should be results-oriented team players with purchasing experience, capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Meet strategic goals for cost reductions and service improvements proactively.
  • Analyze vendor capabilities versus requirements and research new suppliers; evaluate existing suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, and track record.
  • Prepare, distribute, and analyze requests for proposals for daily items and contracts, generating summaries for approval.
  • Negotiate, renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers and vendors.
  • Collaborate with departments to understand technical specifications, product requirements, and inventory demands.
  • Write and review product specifications, maintaining technical knowledge of goods or services purchased.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods/services with staff, users, and vendors to determine corrective actions.
  • Manage day-to-day supplier relations and ensure adherence to contracts.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure timely delivery; trace shipments and follow up on undelivered goods.
  • Produce reports on vendor activity, contracts, RFPs, and procurement data.
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance for compliance and necessary adjustments.
  • Develop policies and procedures for procurement and bid proposals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, preferably in logistics, engineering, operations, or supply chain management.
  • Certification such as CSCMP, C.P.M., or APICS is preferred.
  • 5-10 years of purchasing/materials management experience, focusing on commodities, services, and capital procurement.
  • Proven track record of cost reductions and strategic purchasing initiatives through negotiation and analysis.
  • Excellent customer service skills for working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of supplier markets and industry trends.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, especially in steel or related industries, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Oracle is an asset.
