Job summary

The Village of Lions Bay is seeking a motivated and community-minded individual to join our Public Works team as a full-time Operations Worker. This entry-level role supports the operation, maintenance, and improvement of municipal infrastructure in a small but busy municipality.

Successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue EOCP certification in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and Water Treatment, with EOCP Introduction to Public Works within the first year.

Qualifications

  • 12th grade is required and a Class 5 BC driver's license is required.
  • Technical courses in public works operations and maintenance are preferred.
  • EOCP Introduction to Public Works certification or an equivalent training is preferred, with the applicant expected to obtain it within the first year of employment.
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, gas and electric chain saws, string trimmers and blowers is preferred; experience near heavy equipment and in traffic control is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with boulevards, gardens, playgrounds and parks maintenance including trimming, pruning, watering, and waste collection.
  • Maintenance of buildings and facilities including interiors, exteriors, roofs, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and washrooms.
  • Road maintenance including drainage, culverts, ditches, signage, traffic devices and winter snow/ice control.
  • Work with water treatment and distribution systems to federal/provincial standards.
  • Support wastewater collection and treatment systems to federal/provincial standards.
  • Water, sanitary and storm distribution system work including main/service installation and repair; assist emergency response during utility breaks.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Education

12th grade
Class 5 BC driver's license

EOCP Introduction to Public Works certification or equivalent training
