Job summary

Brandon University is seeking a Student Research Assistant in Philosophy for the Relation-Based Epistemology Project. The role involves literature reviews and bibliographic organization, with mentorship through a structured research process.

Two positions, 3 hours per week for 40 weeks, at $30.70 per hour, starting Oct 15, 2026 and ending Sep 1, 2027. Preference for a Master’s degree and strong analytical reading skills.

Qualifications

  • Academic background or demonstrated interest in social epistemology, philosophy of interpersonal relationships, moral and epistemic obligation, normative ethics and political philosophy.
  • Ability or willingness to develop skills in academic literature searches and philosophical research.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing sources and bibliographies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and discuss complex philosophical material.
  • Willingness to collaborate, receive training, and contribute to a research project from planning through completion.
  • Preference given to those who hold a Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth literature reviews on moral obligation, epistemic responsibility, epistemic normativity, and epistemic relationships.
  • Research related topics such as epistemic wrongs, harms, injustice, accountability, and reconciliation.
  • Locate and review sources using JSTOR and PhilPapers.
  • Compile and organize bibliographies for different project sections.
  • Participate in regular research meetings and discuss early manuscript drafts.
  • Contribute to the development of research outputs, with possible co-authorship of a public-facing article.
